Problem Description
When I try to synchronize the geometry between COMSOL and PTC Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0, the error message
Failed to connect to PTC Pro/ENGINEER. Please make sure PTC Pro/ENGINEER is running.
is displayed.
Solution
The default setting for PTC Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0 is to use the TCP port 1239 for communication. The connection between COMSOL and PTC Pro/ENGINEER 4.0 could fail if this port is used by another application on your computer. If this happens you can configure PTC Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0 to use a different port by following the steps below:
- Close PTC Pro/ENGINEER if it is running on your computer.
- On your computer, browse to the
bin
folder under the PTC Pro/ENGINEER installation folder, typicallyC:\Program Files\proeWildfire 4.0\bin
- Open the file
proe1.psf
in a text editor. - Find the line
ENV=PTCNMSPORT=1239
, and there change the number to a higher number. The new port should not be used by any other application. In some cases it could help to remove the line from the file, for example by replacing it by the line//ENV=PTCNMSPORT=1239
. - Save the file.
Start PTC Pro/ENGINEER, then open a CAD file and check that the synchronization with COMSOL works.
