A data center is a facility composed of networked computers and storage that businesses use to organize, process, store large amounts of data. A business typically relies heavily upon data stored in data center. Data centers mostly utilizes next generation technologies such as 5G, AI, and IoT. These next generation technologies are the source of exponential data generation. Thus, demand for the optical fiber cables in data centers is growing rapidly. For developing a reliable and robust design of the optical fiber cables, it is important to study the changes in the optical properties due to the mechanical loads. Carrying out physical experiments at such large scales becomes high costs. COMSOL Multiphysics® simulations prove to be very useful in such situations. This white paper demonstrate calculation of power losses utilizing COMSOL software for in-plane mechanical bending of the optical fibers.
