Demonstration of a Novel Surface Plasmon Based Interferometer with COMSOL
In order to provide swift and precise diagnostics, physicians and medical doctors require an adequate amount of information about the patient\'s condition. An integrated SPR (surface plasmon resonance) biosensing platform is currently developed by our research group with the aim of preserving compatibility with microfabrication techniques, open-ended surface and integrated light source. In order to push further the sensitivity and usability of the classical SPR biosensing technique, an integrated surface plasmon based interferometer is developed and multiplexed with the SPR architecture. Proof of concept and demonstration of optical properties of this dual device are made with the use of the COMSOL Multiphysics and the RF Module. COMSOL was used to simulate light propagation in the architecture. The architecture is simulated using the Harmonic Propagation mode of the RF Module. Spectral responses of the systems are obtained for various incident energies and angles. The demonstration of the integrated SP-based interferometer was successfully made with COMSOL. The multiplexing of signals allows an increase in experimental measurement accuracy and simplicity.
