Ammonia-Fed Solid Oxide Fuel Cell

Application ID: 126901

In this model of an ammonia-fed solid oxide fuel cell, the required hydrogen is supplied through endothermic thermal decomposition of ammonia. The model includes the full coupling between the mass balances and gas flow in the H2 and O2 gas diffusion electrodes, the momentum balances in the H2 and O2 gas flow channels, the energy balance across the cell, the balance of the ionic current carried by the oxide ion, and an electronic-current balance. A thermal decomposition reaction of ammonia is included in the H2 gas diffusion electrode domain.

The model computes the spatial distributions of the various species across the gas diffusion electrodes and gas flow channels. The model demonstrates that the solid oxide fuel cell is cooled down at the lower applied current density whereas the cell is heated up at the higher applied current density.

The model also demonstrates the use of Auxiliary species in the H2 gas mixture.
