Extracting data from many models

I have a few hundred solved mph files from batch mode (corresponding to different parameters). Now I'd like to go through and extract various bits of result data, programmatically, of course. I'm currently using Matlab - for each file, I call mphload, then mphinterp to get the data, and move on to the next file. But this is really, really slow, and the slowdown looks to be from mphload, not mphinterp.

Does anyone have some advice for doing this sort of thing faster? Thanks for any help.
