copy mesh to a component in a higher dimension

Hi, I'm trying to copy the mesh created on a 2d surface (obtained from a cross section of my 3d model) to the same face in the 3d model and then extrude the mesh to all the domain. I'm trying to use the tool "Copy" to copy the mesh from the 2d surface to the source face in 3d, but I've not totally understand how to do it. I'm following the instruction found at this link (in italian):
