Can I use the interaction force to simulate the impact problem?

Dear All,
I am trying to simulate a sphere ball impacting onto a plate or waveguide to investigate the acoustic emission signals during the collision. As I found there is very limited reference, I am wondering if it is possible to use a point force (equal to the interaction force during the collison) to replace the ball impacting onto the plate?
I can easily deduce the interaction force during impacting based on the contact of Hertz theory. However, I am not sure how it will influence my simulation with the force instead of the sphere ball. Will it matter a lot? I know that I should use the sphere ball for impacting in the model, but it seems very hard to simulate impacting problems with COMSOL. eg. I do not know how to give the ball a initial velocity and the penalty problem.
