Slip condition for moving object in fluid

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

My model: A cylindrical probe is being dragged through an initially static fluid. The resulting disturbances and flow patterns in the fluid are of interest.

My approach: Model the deformed mesh (a consequence of the motion of the probe) with flow modules disabled. Use the deformed mesh as an input to a second simulation where the flow responds to the moving mesh (flow is enabled in this simulation while moving mesh is disabled and the solution of the first simulation is used).

My question: Is the no-slip condition valid at the edge of the probe? I.e. can I just use a moving wall boundary condition?

I suspect that the answer to this question may be a function of probe speed?
