Airflow around rotating airfoils

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi,

I've done a bit of work with COMSOL in the past, but mostly steady state projects. Now, I'm trying to model airflow around rotating airfoils, similar to a vertical axis wind turbine in 2 dimensions.

My set up is a large rectangle with a rotating circular domain inside of it that contains three airfoils spaced in a circular pattern. I used the deforming geometry feature to set this up. I set up identity pairs and flow continuity conditions for the interface between the rectangle and circle. This is pictured below.

Next, I wanted to see how the system behaves when placed in a uniform flow, so I added a k-epsilon turbulence model and set up inlet and outlet conditions on the large rectangle. I tried running this however it will not converge. My convergence plot is largely discontinuous.

Does anyone have any tips to help me reach convergence, or am I going about this wrong?

Thank you.
