TECPLOT export

Dear all,
has someone tried to export the results of a simulation (mesh, displacement, stress, velocity field, pressure, etc) to Tecplot? I'm just aware of the unsupported add-on at
www.tecplottalk.com/addons/comsol/
I'm not sure whether this work with version 4.1.

PS: My ultimate intension would be plotting/visualizing large datasets, like the one you get after using a cluster.

When I first started using COMSOL (actually FEMLAB 3.0 at the time), I wrote my own convertor for Tecplot v10. It was not very good, in that, it did not convert all possibilities. However, I was able to get my data converted. I had been a Tecplot user for > 15 years, so I wanted some consistency.

Since then, Tecplot changed their pricing policy, and I got used to COMSOL graphics. I too would like to see a better solution. I think Tecplot could add a lot of capability to the COMSOL post-processing.

The Tecplot folks came to the COMSOL conference one year and set up a booth. I think they were exploring potential more than anything. Tecplot does support several of COMSOL competitors.

Hi John,

I use this add-on for datafiles from COMSOL 3.5a, and it allows to import some data into Tecplot 360 2009 R2. This plugin works with fields, but not with geometries and meshes. I am thinking to start using 4th COMSOL version, so, I am also interested if the addon works with 4th COMSOL.

Thanks for your answers. My concern is that even though this is an "unsupported" add-on, I would have to pay a full Tecplot license.
Has anybody tried open-source visualization software, based on NetCDF?

Hi All,

We are open to working with the Comsol and its user community to either create a Tecplot binary export from Comsol v4.1, or an upgrade of the v3.5a data loader.

Part of our process is to try to understand the number of Comsol users that would benefit from a Comsol/Tecplot connection -- is it ~10 users, or a ~100 users?

Letting us know your estimate and opinion helps us determine how to proceed.

At the University of Vermont we would be very interested in a Tecplot exporter for Comsol 4.2 Tecplot is used school wide in the College of engineering. In the research group that I work in we have used Fluent for a long time with Tecplot for post processing. We are in the process of migration to Comsol for many of our studies and would like to keep using Tecplot for several reasons. One of which is that we want all of our Comsol licenses being used to run models not postprocess.
