Modeling and Simulation of Electrical Power Devices

The shift toward green energy in general, and electrification in particular, has led to a considerable increase in the demand for electrical power devices at both the component and system levels. Optimal performance for a wide range of operating conditions has become an important design requirement for electrical power devices now that they are increasingly subjected to varying levels of power production — as caused by solar or wind power — and power consumption (especially in regard to electric vehicle charging cycles).

For large-scale electrical power systems, testing and prototyping can be time consuming and costly, to the point where it becomes impractical. Numerical analysis is able to improve the fundamental understanding of the systems involved, reduce R&D costs, and speed up development cycles. Modeling and simulation enables electrical engineers to make more informed decisions and reduce manufacturing and maintenance costs while staying within the required safety margins.

In this webinar, we will discuss using the COMSOL Multiphysics® simulation software to model power cables, transformers, switches, and other components. The presentation will also include a live demo of setting up and solving a model in the software.
