output data to file via script

I am trying to script a model using the .m file and it seems to be able to do everything including the postprocessing but amazingly I can't seem to find an option to simply output the data to a txt file automatically. There is a menu option to export postprocessing data which is exactly what I want but I can't find any script functions for writing to a file. Does anyone know how to do this? Is seems unbelievable that this most obvious command would be missing.
