Can we use "Form an assembly" option while using Piezoelectricity and Solid mechanics?

Hi, I am modeling wave propagation in a composite plate using inbuilt PZT-5H. In my model, a signal is actuated at a PZT which is attached to the composite and the wave propagates through the composite and is received at the other PZT attached to the composite. I want to create a disbond within the layers of the composite. Is it possible to use the "form an assembly" option in the geometry module? I am able to model without disbond using the "form a union" option but I cannot create a disbond. I want to use surface-surface interaction, which is not possible in "form a union". Please respond to this query. Thank you for your time and patience.
