Random nucleation in phase change

I am currently involved in a phase change simulation and I use the level set to track the phases interface.
I have not yet found the way to deal with random nucleation occurring for instance during the quenching of a molten material: during the transient heat transfer calculation, I would like to randomly generate at each time step crystal nuclei at a rate [nuclei.m-3.s-1] dependant of temperature.
I am aware of the random function but cannot figure out how to use it in this specific context.
Any help would be much appreciated !
