Basic question on meshing in 3d and calculations

Hi,

when you specify the mesh size, does comsol perform a single calculation in the tetrahedron or does it internally breakdown the tetrahedron in several blocks of smaller sizes and then perform the calculations.

Dear Supradeep,

This depends on the element order - they can be linear, quadratic, tertair, quartic, or higher. Most of the time, quadratic or linear elements are using. In this case, each element has a shape function, where the functions are evaluated on so called Gauss Points. You can view the element order by left-clicking the Physics Interface (for instance "Heat Transfer") and then going to "Discretization". Make sure "Show advanced options" from the Options=>Preferences menu is turned on.
