How to Use Coordinate-Based Selections in Your Model Setup

When setting up models, it is often helpful to use selections to represent various parts of your geometry. These selections can then be utilized for all of the steps in creating your simulation, such as specifying materials and applying boundary conditions.

In COMSOL Multiphysics®, you can use coordinate-based selections, which include the Ball, Box, and Cylinder selections, to create selections that are partially or completely enclosed by any of the aforementioned shapes. These selection types also automatically update if the geometry in your model changes.

In this video, we show you how to use these selection tools in your simulations and review the advantages of doing so. We encourage you to download the model files featured in this video, from the Application Files section, to try out these features yourself. Note that you will need to reimport the geometry file before making changes to the selections.
