Simulation of Bioreactor Flow Characteristics and Cell Cultivation
Bioreactors play a critical role in cultivating biological cells for various applications, such as pharmaceutical production and tissue engineering. Optimizing the cultivation process requires a deep understanding of the flow characteristics within the bioreactor medium. In this study, we present a comprehensive simulation that investigates the effects of flow patterns on cell cultivation within a bioreactor. By utilizing computational fluid dynamics (CFD), specifically focusing on the Laminar Flow interface in COMSOL Multiphysics®, we analyze the intricate flow patterns and nutrient distribution within the bioreactor. Additionally, we incorporate the Particle Tracing Module to study the behavior of particles in the flow field. The simulation provides valuable insights into laminar flow dynamics, nutrient transport, and particle behavior, which are crucial factors influencing cell growth and productivity. This research contributes to the advancement of bioreactor design and operation, leading to improved cultivation of biological cells for diverse applications.
