How to understand the "provide a degree of freedom" in tutorial "magnetic damping" in ACDC

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

In "magnetic damping" model, the mf physics is not disabled in the frequency domain solving, but with a "provide degree of freedom" button.

What is the detailed meaning of so called “provide degree of freedom"?
The help file support some information like the following:
"Provide Degrees of Freedom to not solve for the physics but provide degrees of freedom (dependent variables) and other physics variables using the settings for values of variables not solved for (see Specifying Values of Dependent Variables)"
"A physics interface in this state shows a small yellow square in its
lower-right corner to indicate that the study step provides degrees
of freedom but does not solve for the physics. "
But this is a little too abstract, so can anyone give some tips, and I believe this maybe important in the multiphysics coupling.
