Thermal stress in a composite structure

Hello,

I am entirely new to COMSOL, but I am trying to model a system of three plates (essentially a sandwich with glass as the bread and a patterned silicon wafer as the filling) and examine the effects of localised heating on one of the plates. A heating laser beam is being modelled as a cylinder embedded in the glass providing a constant heat input power.

Eventually I am hoping to look at the effects of differential heating on stress-induced birefringence of the glass, I'd settle for a simple steady state temperature distribution which I can't even get to work at all. I am completely lost and haven't found a helpful tutorial on this particular topic so any advice is appreciated.
