How to only solve for stresses and strain and disable other quantities in Solid Mechanics Module

Hello! I hope everyone is doing well. I am trying to run simulations but the problem is that the simulation takes a lot of time and its taking a lot of space on the hard drive. So I want to solve only for stresses and strains and not other quantities in the solid mechanics modules like Guass stresses and Guass strains and strain energy and others. I would be glad if someone help me in this regard.

Hello Ghufranullah,

In a solid mechanics FEA, the software solves for the nodal displacements (unless you use a u-p formulation or a mixed tensorial formulation but you'd be aware of it if you did). Stresses, strains and other quantities are all derived from nodal displacements once those displacements have been computed. So the amounts of time and memory it takes to solve the problem is not significantly influenced by the fact that there are many post-processing quantities available. To reduce the amount of disc space it takes to store the file, the software does give you the option of only storing in it some quantities, so you could e.g. not store displacements but then beware that you will need to solve the entire problem again if you discover after the fact that you did need those displacements to compute some post-processing quantity.

Best,

Jeff
