Importing refractive index profile for bending loss calculation

Hello Comsol Lovers, Please first note that I'm not an expert in Comsol. I'm trying to compute the bending loss of a Hollow core fiber in 2D system. I've a refractive index profile in a .dat file having |x| and |refractive index| in two columns. The issues are (1) while importing the file under blank material using interpolation it shows error "unknown variable x" in the real part of refractive index, but if I define the interpolation under global definition no error is found, but does not show the same result if material refractive indices are set without importing by interpolation. (2) most importantly, the refractive index n(x,y) has two components, x and y. In bending calculation we consider 1D refractive index (variation along x only). How can I transform 2D<-->1D using axis transformation? It would be helpful if I get a quite descriptive suggestions from you. Thanks in advance.
