Coupling a 0 order model into a 2D model

So far I have used a distributed ODE to create the 0 order model along the inlet boundary of the 2D reactor model. I used Boundary Probes on the outlet of the 2D reactor model to find the average concentration. I then inputed that average concentration from the Boundary Probes into the 0 order model.
The problem is I don't think the two models are coupling well or something. I am observing that my mass balance on the system is not working. Is there another way to couple or create the 0 order tank model into my 2D reactor model?
Thanks!
