Applying thermal strains to defomed geometry

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hello. I have a rather detailed question, but I've been attempting to model this problem for a month or so, and have hit a brick wall. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Here is what I'm trying to accomplish:

1) Apply a thermal contraction to deform geometry 1
2) Apply new boundary conditions to the deformed geometry along with the stress/strain fields from 1)
3) Impose displacements on the deformed geometry

I've made many different attempts to accomplish this, but the solutions do not work out. In my latest attempt, which is the attached model, I solve for the thermal contraction in Solid Mechanics (solid). I exported the deformed geometry and then imported it as Geometry 2 in Model 2. I am able to apply BCs to the deformed geometry in Solid Mechanics 3 (solid3). But I can not apply the initial stresses and strains from the first Solid Mechanics. When I type, for instance, 'solid.eX1' for an initial strain, I get an error message. Is there a way to apply these initial strains in my current setup?

Do you know some other way for me to accomplish what I'm attempting to model here?

Thanks!
