Unimorph Bending calculations

Hi,

I am hoping someone can tell me what method COMSOL uses when working out the deflection from the end of a beam in a bimorph.

I am trying to simulate a magnetostrictive active layer on a non active substrate layer. When placed in a magnetic field the active layer strains causing the beam to bend. If I know what the strain is, I should be able to work out the deflection from the properties of the material and dimensions, or from the deflection work out the strain in the active layer.

I do not think the mechanism causing the strain should matter, as long as it does not cause the no active layer to strain too.

I would like to know how it is that COMSOL works this out, as I would like a way of verifing the calculations outside of the software, and currently cannot do so by experiment.

Thank you for any help. David
