Modelling Heat Transfer in a Moving Solid Bed

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi, I was looking for some suitable software to model the heat transfer between solid particles and a flue gas for the case described below.

The solid particles are pine wood, assumed to be spheres of 3.5mm, where they form a moving solid bed (non-fluidized) under gravity. The heat is transferred from a hot flue gas, indirectly, through shells/pipes of different geometries, as shown in the attached image.

I would like to visualise the behaviour in terms of temperature and velocity profiles. If the modelling of the moving bed is difficult, it can be assumed that the movement of the solid bed is very slow, allowing the particles to be modelled as static instead.

I would also appreciate any guidelines / recommendations on setting up a procedure for this model.

Kind Regards
