Copying mesh with shared boundary

I am trying to make a symmetric mesh by mirroring a, triangularly meshed, rectangular domain in one of its boundaries.
To this specific boundary also a 'size node' set to boundary is applied since this seperating boundary needs additional mesh refinement.
I have tried using the 'copy' command, but this gives the error 'failed to copy mesh - different number of edge elements'.
This is really puzzeling, since I have a demo COMSOL file with a competely similar (perhaps created in a different version) that does not receive this error and proceeds normally.
Any help?
