Modeling Nanophotonic Applications with COMSOL Multiphysics® - Archived
Nanophotonics covers a wide spectrum of applications, including spectrometry, sensing, metrology, communication, and quantum applications. Formulating devices for implementing these applications requires a combination of material science and solving Maxwell's equations. The COMSOL Multiphysics® simulation software is well suited for modeling microsystems for photonic designs as well as for nanoscale applications.
In this webinar, Dr. Kaustav Bhowmick, associate professor at PES University, will discuss his recent work on imaging and photodarkening that produced results comparable to experiments, accomplished using COMSOL Multiphysics®. Dr. Bhowmick's team has been exploring both electromagnetic and material intricacies to understand and decipher the details of operation of diverse nanophotonic applications. He will also discuss how the team's work has aided in the development of a complete, easy-to-use, Hamiltonian-based quantum console based on photonic devices.

Dr. Kaustav Bhowmick is an associate professor in the department of electronics and communication engineering at the People’s Education Society (PES) University in Bengaluru. After receiving his bachelor's degree from the West Bengal University of Technology, he spent a year as a software engineer at Infosys Technologies Ltd. With a keen interest in photonics, he moved to the University of Nottingham, UK, as both a Nottingham Developing Solutions Scholar and Chevening Scholar. There, he worked on chalcogenide glass photonics and specialty fiber design in the university’s George Green Institute of Electromagnetics Research and Novel Photonic Glasses Laboratory. After earning his PhD and during his tenures at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Sikkim, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, and PES University, he has been instrumental in developing multiple photonics laboratories that are producing impactful publications. Dr. Bhowmick and his research team have largely been exploring nanophotonic structures, catering to applications in current quantum technology and spectrometry.
