Back to Events Calendar

This webinar will discuss the design of accelerometers capable of detecting low-frequency tremors in patients living with Parkinson’s disease. In this live webinar, Dr. Koushik Guha of the National Institute of Technology Silchar will discuss a proof mass design, which must operate at a low resonant frequency and is bound by size and mass constraints.

Dr. Guha will discuss the proof mass of structures and how to identify the simplest design that balances factors like fabrication, cross-sensitivity, and stress levels. You will see how this basic structure is then transformed into a capacitive comb-drive accelerometer with modified geometric beams based on mathematical modeling and simulations using COMSOL Multiphysics®.

Speaker

Dr. Koushik Guha Professor and Head of the Department, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, National Institute of Technology Silchar

Dr. Koushik Guha currently works as a researcher, professor, and head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Silchar (NIT Silchar, an Institution of National Importance under the Government of India). Dr. Guha received his PhD from NIT Silchar, where he worked on the design and modeling of an RF MEMS shunt switch. He was awarded the Distinguished Faculty Award of 2021 by NIT Silchar and the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) R S Khandpur Award of 2022 for his national and international contributions to the field of medical instrumentation. He was also awarded the Institute of Smart Structures and Systems Young Scientist Award from IISc Bangalore for his contribution to MEMS and nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) sensor and actuator research. Dr. Guha has published over 200 papers, 35 book chapters, and two books and is involved in a number of R&D projects with various government organizations. He also has five international patents and two national patents to his name. His current research interests include mimicking human body functions using MEMS technology, RF MEMS, bio-MEMS, MEMS energy harvesting, design and development of smart sensors for the internet of things (IoT), and very-large-scale integration (VLSI) circuit design and optimization.
